2-Firsts :)

Last Sunday a bunch of kiddos in the area celebrated their 1st Communions.  I always LOVE looking at proud parent's pictures of this event!  The little girls look like little brides in their white dresses and veils...and of course the young men always look great too all dressed up :)
These are two VERY different cakes that I made for this occasion.  The top one is covered in fondant with fondant figures.  A HUGE thanks to Jessica Hoffman for sending a picture of a cake similar to this one, and asking if I thought I could do it.  I LOVE getting to opportunity to create cakes like this!
The bottom one was for a large family celebration for the Vieth/Lindley family.  With two boys in the family having a special day, they needed a considerably larger cake to celebrate with.  This is a half chocolate, half white cake with buttercream icing and a very small touch of fondant.

Rustic Shower

Jordan Carr needed a rustic cake for a shower.  The bridesmaids will all be wearing a bone colored dress and carry wildflowers, which sounds absolutely gorgeous to me!
I did a simple white cake with buttercream icing and fondant ribbon.  The bow on this cake is made of rafia.  I normally try to avoid using non-food items, because I think that's part of the WOW factor in the cakes I do...someone looking at it and saying "that's icing???"  But I wanted this look for the cake and this was a much more cost effective way of doing it.

Special cake for a Special Boy

My sweet cousin Molly made the mistake of commenting on facebook that she wished I lived closer so I could make Jack's 1st birthday cake (she lives about 2 hours away in the metroplex).  So my response..."Maybe I can!"  As the son of a pilot, Jack's party was ALL about planes, so with the help of my friend, Kayci Province, we put together this AWESOME cake (and Jack's little smash cake too ;).  We made the trip and the cake held up just fine!  Me on the other hand......well, I held up okay I suppose...but I think I was more nervous about driving this cake to their house than I was about getting our girls home from the hospital when they were born!!!
I survived - and luckily, Molly doesn't live too far from my favorite winery in Grapevine...so you know me, I HAD to go have a glass (or 2) to take the edge off after a 2 hour trip of feeling every single bump and pothole that hwy 287 and 380 had to offer!
The main cake was a 3 tiered white cake covered in fondant icing with fondant figures.  All parts of this cake were edible.
Jack's smash cake was buttercream icing with a fondant 1.

Sweet n Simple

A good friend of mine asked me to make a cake for her grandson's baptism.  Basically the only instructions she gave me were to put his name on it and make it very simple.  I think this was a great elegant cake that had just enough decoration to make it pretty, but keeping in tune with this special occasion.

This was buttercream icing with a fondant cross and dove.

My clients like BEER!

Not bad for freehand!  I was running late on this cake, so I didn't quite get all the pictures of it that I wanted to.  It was complete with a tab on the top and a concave bottom to make it look like a real can :)  I freehanded the lettering (which I"m pretty darn happy with!).  The mountains in the background were hard to get on camera, but they were much easier to see in person.

This was a 2 layer, half chocolate, half strawberry cake covered in fondant icing.

Tiaras and Pink Frosting

Windthorst native and pediatric cancer survivor Deanna Scott recently became a published author with her book "Tiaras and Pink Frosting".  Our school was lucky enough to have her come speak to the students about some of the things she went through and becoming an author.  Deanna contacted me and wanted a cake and cake balls for the teachers at school that followed the theme of her book - how sweet is that?!?

Play Ball!!!

What Texas Rangers fan wouldn't want to make a Rangers cake?!?!  And even better, a little reference to my favorite Ranger, Mr Josh Hamilton!  They just needed a small cake for the family, so we did an 8" round cake with buttercream icing and fondant accents.  I think it turned out pretty nice and a great way to celebrate Miss Harlee's birthday and opening weekend for the Texas Rangers.

DL Ligon

When Stacy first contacted me she sent me a picture of The Ballpark in Arlington and asked if I could do it...Sure, no problem...haha.  Then after talking to her, she said she REALLY wanted a basketball themed cake, but couldn't find one she really liked...so, my answer..I can do it!  This family LOVES basketball and they LOVE the M.S.U. Mustangs!  I have a feeling someday we'll see Kolbi running around in Maroon and Gold...or any other color he chooses ;)

M-I-C...K-E-Y...M-O-U-S-E...MICKEY MOUSE! HAHA!

Samantha contacted me MONTHS ago about making her SWEET little man's first birthday cake...she was really the first person who ever wanted to order a cake from me, it just ended up not being the first order I ever filled.  This was also the first smash cake I got to make...I seriously LOVE those things :)  Something about a baby thoroughly enjoying the cake I made for them makes my heart melt!  She had an awesome party for him...I think it was better coordinated than my wedding!
This cake was made from buttercream icing - the ears and feet were fondant, along with the circles and letters...but the primary icing was buttercream.

Cheers!

I had SO much fun making this cake!  I think it turned out great for an adult birthday party...It's made of buttercream icing and poured sugar.  The only fondant used was for the lime, the only thing not edible on the entire cake is the can.  The birthday girl contacted me via facebook and LOVED her cake...makes me a happy baker when I know I made someone's day special :)
